WHAT IS SCLEROTHERAPY?

Sclerotherapy is a popular method of eliminating superficial (spider veins) in which a solution called a sclerosing agent is injected into the veins. The injection causes a sclerosis, which gradually fades the treated vessel over a period of several weeks.

DOES SCLEROTHERAPY WORK FOR EVERYONE?

Most people have good results however there is no guarantee that
it is effective in every case. Approximately 10% of patients who
undergo sclerotherapy have poor results meaning that the veins have
not totally disappeared after 6 treatments. RARELY – the patient’s condition may become worse.

HOW MANY SCLEROTHERAPY TREATMENTS DO YOU NEED?

The number of treatments differs from patient to patient depending
on the extent of spider veins. One to six or more treatments may
be needed, but the average is 3-5 treatments.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Side effects from Sclerotherapy include bruising, which lasts 1-several
weeks. Use of support hose may be recommended and avoidance of alcohol
for 72 hours prior to each treatment.

DOES IT HURT?

Some people experience mild pain at the site of the injection.
Veins may be tender after treatment. The pain is temporary.
